Pictures from the Air
The mini exhibition “Pictures from the Air” presents the history and present day of aerial photography from the Vapriikki Photo Archives.
What does Tampere look like when photographed from the Tampella tower in 1885? And how does the Vapriikki Photo Archives capture the present day from the air?
Photographs taken from high places have been fascinating even before the invention of airplanes. Photographs have been taken from the air and from high places since the early days of photography. It is claimed that the world’s first aerial photograph was taken by French photographer Nadar from a hot air balloon in 1858.
You can also explore the digital photo collections of the Vapriikki Photo Archives.
The exhibition is on display from October 1, 2025, to February 1, 2026, in the Vapriikki conference corridor (2nd floor).
