Knights

Through the display of almost 200 extraordinary original objects – full suits of armour, equestrian figures, helmets, corselets, shields, swords and other weaponry – the historical and artistic context in which the objects were made and used is investigated.

The provocative beauty and the exquisite craftsmanship of the pieces of armor bring to life the legendary figure of the knight, his code of chivalry and his evolving battlefield role.

The Knights exhibition provides a full view to the world of the knights at their highest point and at the last moments of their history, but also touches on their lasting legacy. Themes such as chivalry and loyalty, love and war, power and family, jousts and tournaments are explored.

The exhibition is organized by Expona and Contemporanea Progretti in collaboration with Vapriikki and based on the collections of Museo Stibbert, Florence, Italy. Complementing loans from the private collection of Peter Mustonen, The National Museum of Finland and The Royal Armoury of Sweden (Livrustkammaren) establish a Nordic component to the exhibition and reveal that the era of the knights in shining armour was an all-European phenomenon.
