Pikku Kakkonen Anniversary Exhibition
An exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of Pikku Kakkonen, Finland’s much-loved children’s programme, will open at Vapriikki on 6 May 2027.
Pikku Kakkonen brings generations together, evoking fond childhood memories for Finns of all ages. Now, Vapriikki invites visitors to step into its colourful world and meet some of its best-loved characters, including the legendary canine trio Karvakuonot, Hermann the Clown, Rollo the forest-dweller, Katti Matikainen the travelling cat, and even the famously unnerving Morso. The extensive selection of memorabilia on display has been gathered from the Pikku Kakkonen team’s archives and storerooms.
There’s something for visitors of all ages in this heart-warming exhibition. Younger guests can play in the show’s colourful set, take a spin in Maltti and Valtti’s pedal car, or settle down in a cosy nook to listen to bedtime stories. At dedicated viewing stations, visitors can revisit old favourites and discover more recent clips, exploring five decades of Finnish children’s television. The exhibition will remain open at Vapriikki for approximately two years.
The first episode of Pikku Kakkonen aired on 11 January 1977. Since then, the half-hour programme has become a much-loved fixture in Finnish afternoons. Over the decades, its offering has expanded to include online content and apps, but its core values have remained unchanged: providing children with a safe media environment, high-quality programming, inspiration for play and encouragement to explore the world around them.
Spanning 300 square metres, the exhibition is being produced in collaboration with the Pikku Kakkonen team at the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle).
